Pulling off huge cookie walk is team effort

… Among the first-time volunteers were Rob and Dr. Christi Taylor and their four children. “We like to take on service projects as a family and we thought this would be perfect,” Christi explained. “You get to bake cookies, you get to help at the church, and the money goes to a great cause. What could be better?”

The family began baking during Thanksgiving week, completing 12 dozen by late Friday. One of the Taylor family favorites, chocolate almond biscotti, was entered in the cookie of the year contest. A large plate of the biscotti was among the numerous goodies prepared by the family for the sale day.

The Taylor baking crew included daughters Melani, 20, at home from college, and Kati, 17, a Waukee High School senior. Sons Ben, 11, and Will, 6, also helped with the baking and decorating.

Ben reported that making sure the cookies didn’t burn was his favorite task, while Will became the chief “go-to guy” for whatever was needed. Ben and Will also volunteered at the cookie walk on Saturday morning, along with their mom and dad.
