A lifelong Iowan and West Des Moines resident, Rob Taylor was first elected to the Iowa House in 2012 and is serving his second term. Rob represents the constituents of District 44, which encompasses the Dallas County portion of West Des Moines, Waukee and Clive. He serves as Chairman of the Ethics Committee for the Iowa House of Representatives. He also has been appointed to Appropriations, Economic Growth, Human Resources and Education Appropriations committees. In Rob’s first term he served on Environmental Protection and Commerce committee. Rob has served on the Dallas County Republican Central Committee since 2008. He served as Organizational Chair and then Chairman of the Dallas County Republicans, from 2009-2011.
Rob ran on a platform to bring fiscal responsibility and common sense back to government. While in the Legislature, Taylor worked on a number of different economic development initiatives, including the largest property tax cut in Iowa history, and ensuring sound fiscal management of taxpayer dollars.
Born and raised in Des Moines, Rob had the benefit of living in urban Des Moines but also tended to the family farm in Osceola. Rob learned to value hard work and a commitment to family. He graduated from Des Moines Lincoln High School in 1989. Rob received his Associate of Arts degree from Des Moines Area Community College, his Bachelor of Science from Upper Iowa University and his Master of Business Leadership from William Penn University.
Rob is a sales director for a small business in central Iowa. Under his leadership, corporate sales have increased consistently, despite challenging economies. Rob also serves as a consultant and trainer for the automotive industry, as well as a diesel and bio-fuel specialist with experience in agricultural equipment and municipal transportation. Rob also serves as an adjunct professor for William Penn University and Des Moines Area Community College.
Rob and his wife, Dr. Christi Taylor, an internist with The Iowa Clinic, have four children. They have two daughters, one a college graduate of UNI and now dental student at the University of Iowa School of Dentistry and the other a college junior at University of Kansas. The Taylor’s two youngest children, both sons, also attend school in Waukee and are active in rock-climbing, motorcyling, baseball and Boy Scouts. The Taylors have also been a host family to various foreign exchange students from Switzerland, Austria, Japan, Poland and Germany through the American Foreign Service Program.
In 2011 Rob was selected by the US Air Force to attend the National Security Forum at Maxwell Air Force Base, where he was briefed on national security and terrorism issues at home and abroad. In 2014 Rob became a BILLD Fellow graduate from the Council of State Governments. He is an active member of the Des Moines Area Community College Alumni Foundation Board and the DMACC Automotive Advisory Council. He is an ASE Certified Automotive and Diesel technician. Rob is a member of the NRA, Farm Bureau, Southgate Masonic Lodge #657 and Gold Toque Society member of the Iowa Culinary Institute. Rob coached baseball for the Walnut Creek Little League, served on the West Des Moines Board of Adjustment, Animal Control Board, the Dallas County Compensation Board and served on various local charities including The Iowa Clinic Healthcare Foundation, John Stoddard Rally Against Cancer and Bras for the Cause.
